Interview with our Language Assistant Nicole White
Interviewer = I: Hi Nicole, how are you?
Nicole White = N: I’m fine, thanks.
I: Where are you from?
N: I`m from Massachusetts in the USA and I grew up in a city near Boston.
I: And where did you study?
N: I studied communication at the High Point University in North Carolina.
I: What have you done since you graduated from your university?
N: I worked for two years as a teacher at a primary school in North Carolina. After that I travelled to many different countries like Ireland and Costa Rica.
I: Which countries are you looking forward to visiting?
N: I would really like to visit Italy, but I also want to see Spain and Croatia.
I: What are you doing at the moment in Vienna and how long are you going to stay?
N: At the moment I work as a native speaker in the VBS Hamerlingplatz. I think I will stay until July, but maybe if I like it, I´ll stay for another year.
I: What`s the first thing you do when you visit a new city?
N: I love to walk around the city and explore new places.
I: Have you ever been to Austria before?
N: Coincidently yes, because I studied for four months at the University of Salzburg as an exchange student.
I: So you speak German?
N: “Ein kleines bisschen” 🙂 But I learned it only for two years at school.
I: What is your favourite food?
N: I really like pizza and every kind of salmon.
I: Have you found your favourite food in Vienna yet?
N: I think it’s probably “Schnitzel” and “Esterhazy Torte”.
I: Have you had any bad experiences since you came to Austria?
N: Not really, but I don´t like your supermarket system. I think it is way too stressful. But I like your underground system.
I: Do you have any advice for students that want to improve their English?
N: Yes, if you want to learn a language, you have to take every opportunity to speak. It doesn`t matter how many mistakes you make!
I: Thanks for the interview and have a nice day!
